Beats, Beds & Browns is proud to be featured in the 66th USA & Canada Issue of Garden Culture Magazine, highlighting the impact of the #100Kin10Yrs initiative and its mission to strengthen local food systems.
The feature spotlights our founder Joseph Skibbie and his work connecting communities to gardening as a way to address food insecurity, improve well-being, and create lasting change at the local level.
Launched during the COVID-19 pandemic, Beats, Beds & Browns was built on a simple idea: making it easier for people to grow their own food and reconnect with the process.
“Put some seeds in the ground and get started,” Skibbie says.
Through free seed kits, accessible education, and community-driven engagement, the #100Kin10Yrs initiative encourages people of all backgrounds and experience levels to begin growing—whether that’s in a backyard, a raised bed, or a small indoor space.
The article highlights how even small actions can have a meaningful ripple effect:
“When somebody gets a seed kit, they share their progress and journey and tag us in it. We’ve had that happen a couple of times this year, and we’re really happy to see it. That spreads the joy back.”
By removing barriers and simplifying the growing process, Beats, Beds & Browns continues to expand access to fresh food while building stronger, more connected communities.
Skibbie’s passion for growing food is deeply personal and rooted in long-term impact:
“Through native landscaping, I can save seeds. With heirloom garden plants, you can save seeds. So, here I am stockpiling all these seeds, and it came to me that I could be distributing those.”
As the #100Kin10Yrs movement grows, the focus remains on creating sustainable change—one seed at a time.
This feature in Garden Culture Magazine marks an important milestone, and reflects the continued momentum behind grassroots solutions to food access and community resilience.
